The Trump administration is discussing ways to expand its travel ban list, a controversial measure that has been seen as discriminating against Muslims.

Speaking to senior administration officials, American news-based channel CNN reported that discussions are underway to determine the countries that could be added to the Muslim ban, an executive order by United States president Donald Trump implemented in 2017.

The same source indicates that administration officials are mainly considering countries that «are not compliant with electronic documents and information sharing», adding that fewer than five nations are being targeted.

The current travel ban includes Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, which are majority Muslim countries. The same list also features Venezuela and North Korea. Chad was removed from the list in April after it managed to improve its security measures, the White House said.

While the Trump administration insists that the travel ban is «vital to national security», many see the measure as an attempt to ban Muslims from entering the US.
