After Nasser Bourita met Sergey Lavrov, two Russian diplomats visit Laayoune

Two senior diplomats at the Russian embassy in Rabat are, since yesterday, in Laayoune. «The two officials will have to meet with the head of MINURSO, Colin Stewart», a well-informed source told Yabiladi.

The two diplomats’ visit to Laayoune comes one week after Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 5th edition of the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum, held in Moscow on April 16th.

Morocco is relying on the neutrality of Russia at the UN Security Council, where negotiations are underway to adopt a new resolution on the Western Sahara conflict.

Speaking to Russian news agency Sputnik, Lavrov praised Russia’s «crucial» role in «resolving crises in the Arab world».

Last week in Russia, Morocco and Russia agreed to create a regular mechanism for diplomatic dialogue between Rabat and Moscow.
