Ghanaian soccer player John Pentsil celebrated the goals scored by his teammates against the Czech Republic at the World Cup on Saturday by waving the Israeli flag at the stadium in Cologne. What if the flag raised was that of Palestine? Or even worst, What if it was that of Hezbollah or Hamas? Yes the international community recognizes Israel, but also recognizes the fact that there’s a conflict going on, and the act of this player, small as it may seem to some, puts bitterness in many Arabs towards Ghanaians in general. Was it necessary since this guy plays in Israel and needed to prove his appreciation to his host country? Or was it plain stupidity? The head of Ghana in the world cup said it should not have taken place but that they would not punish the player.
