Hey buddies. Haven't been here for a while so hope those of you i haven't been in touch with are all ok!

Does anyone know the best way to send money to Morocco from the UK?? i mean anyway excluding western union and Moneygram as these guys try to rip you off before allowing you to transfer money!

I came across a company called Chequepoint which deals with Morocco but i couldn't find their offices in Morocco. Anyone knows if and which banks have a deal with them? otherwise any other alternative??

The best and safe way is tu wiretransferthe money from a bank where you are to a bank where you want it to go in Morocco with the recipient name

I’ve been in the same situation many times and believe me I’ve tried many ways including sending cheques,which takes about 1 week to arrive....the best and effective way is Western Union!... in 1 hour the intended recipient gets the money and nearly in all Moroccan cities….of course it’s expensive to compare but the most sure and the quickest …unfortunately for this good service you get to pay more …I use it only in emergency situation……

Using your own bank to transfer money is the worst way of doing it, it will cost you 20 to 30 pounds and the exchange rate will be very bad.

you will be better off using an online fx broker like Moneybooker (there are many others).

The best way however, is to use Nationwide building society. Open an account with them and give the debit card to the person you want to transfer the money to. (if you trust him), he will be able to withdraw 300 pound/day.

Nationwide dont charge anything for using debit cards abroad, no commision and no fixed fee, other banks charge 3% and a fixed commission of 3pound/ withrawal. I myself use this method and it's great, you get the best exchange rate possible.

It depends on the amount if you are sending under £1500 the best way i found is to your Morrocan bank account attijariwafa bank if you have one from Barclay bank & its free of charge ( if you do not have an account its worth it to open one with the bank representative in the UK Mr Chami = 07956118864) he will supply you with account No ect to pay in in any Barclays in the long run it the best option to have a couple of hundreds saved back home in case of the urgent need ...

Checkpoint are not bad & there is one in Queesway i used a couple of times you send money to a bank account in Morrocco [www.chequepoint.com]

If you want to send a large amount you will get a better deal and exchange rate with a money transfer company - eg Moneycorp. You can look it up on the internet.

Hi all and thank you for your replies and advice..I have unfortunately made a mistake and sent the money via chequepoint, it never got there and now they don't want to give me my money back!! i have been going everyday to their agency and calling their stupid head office which is based in india or god knows where but they find all sorts of rubbish excuses and up till now i dont know where my money is...They are the worst company ever and i would strongly recommend never to use them!!

Atlas,your suggestion about the bank account sounds good to me. Is there attijari branch in London? sorry i didn't get the connection with the barclay bank, what do i need to do? how much do they charge per transaction and how long does it take to get to Morocco?

attijari do not have a branch in London ,but they work from an office in Abbey in Queensway , the man in charge is very good & i highly recommend opening an account & leave some money there any time you need it you could take a swift action

Barclay the only connection is you pay in Money into attijari account who transfer it to your account home its take about 5 working days & with a good exchange rate

waw, that's really harsh. If they don't refund you, you should take them to the financial ombudsman and then to court.

The card will be in your name indeed, but it's definitely not illegal.

The thing with this method is that you have to trust the other person.

The other problem is that ATMs in Morocco are not very reliable, sometimes it's doesn't give you cash but still charges you. It happened to my father twice over the last 2 year, but Nationwide refunded me on both occasions no question asked, even when I told them that it was my father who used the card. (i had to tell them because i didn't have the card with me when I complained, they even gave me the card number to put in the complaint form )

That's excellent! i will definitely explore this option.., Now i'll find out if all those adverts involving Mark Benton were worth it )

An alternative to the bank is to transfer money easily via online services if you have a credit card like Visa or Mastercard. I have tried money transfer service from www.xoom.com to Morocco, it is fast, secure, and you do it from anywhere home/office/internet-cafe.

Also consider a friend who owns a credit card to do the transaction for you and you pay him the amount charged.

I think the best and quickest way to transfer sme money to many countries around the word is to go to the first Somalian cafe internet and ask for the DAHABSHIL system and u will be pleasantly surprized( it costs u only 5 Quid), cause I use it my self about 4 month ago.

I go often to Morocco almost every tow to three months Mainly to Marrakech or Casablanca, in an emergency and only the money I am willing to take to your relatives a small amount (no more than 1K) as I take my own too at no cost to you.
My mum new a guy from Meknes with a van very reliable; he goes regularly from London I think he charges £2.50 per kilo and not sure how much for the money. He just brought her the olives and olive oil, gas3a and other items for £80.
Last news she told me he wasn’t going to do it any longer as he was returning back home with his family for good. The Moroccans (her close ring) are trying to find someone new to bring/take parcels back home. When I learn of a new contact I will be happy to share his info as most people they use are very reliable and trust worthy.

You know i was just about to ask if anyone here knows someone who takes and brings stuff from Morocco? it's a real pity the man your mum knew has stopped his business. £2.50 per kilo that's really cheap! please if you find someone else do let me know i'll be very interested. I don't want to send money but heavy items such as a TV and maybe beds etc..

I visit often Morocco, as over ten years before last year I didn't go back; also I have found that I knew very little about my own country. I can say now I have visited East, West, North and south I loved every part of it. I am considering buying a place in Casablanca as a base when I visit and to use later on when I am old and retired.
To answer your other question, no it’s purely for pleasure.
I can’t live there for good, purely due to too many bad memories over ( the reason I left in the first place.
Yes I have spoken with Mr Chami he was very helpful and courteous as one would expect. He even sent me an introductory leaflet I need to go down to London on a working day to meet up with him (May I already know him from forums ha-ha)

western union is the best and secure way to send money to Morocco , unfortunately there is a high fee but it s worth it less hassle and give you peace of mind

yes there is someone who can bring staff from morocco for 2.5 pound, and you can send money as well with this agency, i have been dealing with them for the past 4 years, they are based in baker street,they don`t charge much for sending money, 2pound for 200 pound or less, they send the money to BMCE bank where the receiver has to go and pick it up, they are so reliable, so this their contact details:

the best way I've found of transferring money to Morocco is the card JISR. If i need to send some one from my family money I just top up their card one the phone, almost like an oyster card, lol.
BMCE bank, a (good) moroccan bank in London provide this service.

Ria Money is the best and quickest way to send money to Morocco, recipients can collect from either BMCE, Barid AlMaghrib and another 3rd option which I cant seem to remember. They charge £3 for each 100 pounds. Sometimes they have discount codes to send money free.
