The Arabian Peninsula was formerly the home of nomadic peoples who managed with the desert environment by traveling every season.
When some citizens groups began to set up settlements about the fifth century, many chose Makkah, next to the west coast of Saudi Arabia, as their home. It did not present a positive climate or many usual resources, but it was the site of the Kaaba, a large cubical holy place dedicated to a variety of deities.
